Canadian women hold protest to warn of transvaginal mesh complications

June 10th, 2013

Women from across the Canadian providence of Saskatchewan gathered outside Saskatoon City Hospital to protest the use of transvaginal mesh. The women brought signs and shouted about transvaginal mesh side effects to raise awareness.

Many surgical mesh manufacturers have issued transvaginal mesh recalls after studies showed their products caused severe side effects. Thousands of women have filed transvaginal mesh lawsuits alleging that the device — designed to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence — did more harm than good.

In some instances, the body can reject the surgical mesh, cause internal bleeding, tissue damage and organ perforation. Many women who received transvaginal mesh have undergone revision surgery to treat mesh complications.
