Medical manufacturer Endo International PLC plans to settle a substantial number of transvaginal mesh lawsuits filed against the company’s American Medical Systems unit. The company will pay $830 million to patients who alleged that transvaginal mesh from American Medical Systems (AMS) caused severe complications and side effects.
Patients who received an AMS transvaginal mesh device to treat pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence have complained of severe mesh side effects which require surgery to correct. Transvaginal mesh side effects include internal bleeding, severe pain and discomfort, tissue damage, and organ perforation.
Multiple mesh manufacturers have been hit with mesh lawsuits alleging their devices caused serious injuries. Tens of thousands of women have filed lawsuits against the companies, which include Johnson & Johnson, CR Bard, Boston Scientific, and Endo.
